Our story

Osteria da Mauri is more than just a restaurant – it is our life project. A small but sincere culinary story, born from the desire to bring the authentic taste of Italy to Ljubljana, prepared with love, experience and respect for tradition.

Every dish that comes out of our kitchen tells a story: about my roots, the travels we've experienced, the people who inspired us, and most of all, the rich Italian culinary heritage. We use carefully selected ingredients, simple but precise techniques, and a personal approach that makes each plate unique.

I'm Mauri, born in Milan and raised in San Vendemiano in the province of Treviso. My love for cooking has accompanied me since I was young, so I enrolled in the catering school in Vittorio Veneto. I started working during my studies - first at weekends and during the summer seasons, which gave me early experience in a professional kitchen.

After finishing school and doing my military service, I worked in my hometown for a year. In 2005, I decided to take a big step: I left Italy and moved to Barcelona. It was there that I really began to shape my culinary style – combining my Italian roots with flavors and techniques from around the world.

In Barcelona, I met Andreja Hvala, my life partner. Together, we spent almost 15 years traveling and working around the world – in Australia, Belgium, Spain, and Qatar – experiencing diverse culinary cultures.

Seven years ago, we decided to settle in Ljubljana. I first worked in several local restaurants here, and then a long-standing dream came true: we opened something of our own. Thus, Osteria da Mauri was born.
